Miniature Dragons

트로피이미지

In the Andean cloud forests in Ecuador and Peru, researchers found three new species of wood lizards. Scientists say that the lizards are a relatively less-diverse group of species. So, they expect that the new discovery will broaden their previous knowledge of lizards.

Wood lizards are tiny creatures, measuring only about 7 to 12 centimeters. They are often called “miniature dragons” because of their resemblance to the mythical fire-breathing creatures. The newly discovered lizards have distinctive features that are found in dragons from folk tales.
However, Enyalioides altotambo, which has short, plump legs, stands out the most because it looks like “Gronckle,” the tough dragon from the popular animated movie series, How to Train Your Dragon.

According to a conservation group, the forests are home to more than 1,500 unique vertebrates, thousands of birds, and about 20,000 plants. So, scientists are expecting to find more unique species in the region.
